Since the loss in 2007 of highly respected and venerated aviator - Ossie James, a small group has been in discussion to form, by deed of Trust, a working committee to repaint ZK-AZL back to its original livery as a mark of respect and as monument to aviation pioneers and the grandfather of aerial topdressing in New Zealand - Ossie James.

The DC-3 is currently located in the grounds of the New Zealand National Fieldays Society at Mystery Creek in Hamilton, however it has suffered the ravages of time and weather and it was recognised that the aircraft was in urgent need of conservation.

This has now begun. The first stage is the erection of a building to house ZK-AZL, getting the aircraft under shelter. From there work to restore the aeroplane to its former glory, plus the creation of other displays around it to tell the stories of Ossie James, Aerial topdressing and ZK-AZL, are ongoing projects. This website will keep you up to date with progress and offer information on the New Zealand aviation industry which ZK-AZL and Ossie James were such a part of.
